Strides in surgery
Simi Valley Hospital keeps up-to-date with technology to give you quality care
SIMI
Valley Hospital is committed
to living out our mission to provide
exceptional service and care every
single day. Advances in technology
play an increasing
role in those
e orts as the
hospital keeps
up-to-date with
equipment and
techniques while
maintaining our core value of
compassionate, quality care.
Simi Valley Hospital’s Surgical
Services department recently
celebrated the debut of one such
advanced technique with the rst
endovascular abdominal aortic
aneurysm repair (EVAR) at the
hospital.
EVAR is the preferred method to
treat abdominal aortic aneurysm—a
dangerous condition in which
a weak spot in an artery in the
abdomen is at the point of bursting,
which would cause rapid blood loss.
Je Smith, director of Surgical
Services at Simi Valley Hospital,
said that the procedure enables the
surgeon to enter the patient’s body
through a small incision in the
groin, rather than the large incision
required for conventional surgery.
Using precision instruments and
computer imagery, the surgeon
guides a stent into the aorta,
repairing it from
the inside.
is minimally
invasive procedure
results in less
pain and fewer
complications,
with faster recovery and a hospital
stay of only a night or two,” Smith
said.
Technology + human touch
Patients and visitors can expect
more than technology at Simi Valley
Hospital. At both the hospital and
the Aspen Surgery Center, hospital
sta and surgeons work to create a
warm and caring environment in
which to collaborate with patients
and their loved ones to bring about
the best possible outcome.
e Aspen Surgery Center excels
nationwide in patient satisfaction,
scoring well above similar centers
across the country.
Because our sta lives right
here in this community, we see our
patients on a regular basis,” said
Jeanine Maurer, RN, director of
the Aspen Surgery Center. “Our
reputation goes far beyond just
the need to do our job; we extend
ourselves to our patients because
they are the people we run across all
the time in our daily lives.”
Simi Valley Hospital blends
the latest technology with the
human touch.
Breaking
ground
In our ongoing e ort to serve the
community’s needs, Simi Valley Hospital
is thinking big. In 2010, we launched
our $41 million Emergency Services
and Hospital Expansion Project. Among
other improvements, the project will
add a large, state-of-the-art surgical
suite.
Anchored by the new Thakkar
Family Emergency Pavilion, the project
will also contain the community’s
rst cardiac catheterization lab, an
expanded GI Lab and other special
features. Simi Valley Hospital
plans to break ground
on this new phase of
development by the end
of 2012.
