For the love of our community
WAITING.
It’s hard enough to
do under normal circumstances, but
when someone is injured or ill, the
wait for care can be grueling—for
both the patient and the people who
are with the patient.
Simi Valley Hospital has been
making an intentional effort to
decrease the time it takes for a
patient to see a physician after he
or she arrives in the Emergency
Department. By early 2013, that
time was down to an average of just
19 minutes.
“That is extraordinarily fast,” said
Bill Werner, general vice president
for Support Services at Simi Valley
Hospital. “Another hospital in the
area promoted the fact that their
corresponding wait time was
30 minutes, so that is a good
indicator of just how fast our ‘door
to doc’ time is.”
This statistic is particularly
significant, Werner added, given
the fact that the Emergency
Department is currently involved
in a major construction project—
part of the hospital’s $41 million
Dropping
Emergency department patients
I
love this community, and I
know that my colleagues here at
Simi Valley Hospital
share that
sentiment. That is why we are
driven to grow and develop in ways
that enable local residents to have
access to a wide range of high-
quality medical services right here
at home.
We’re excited to share about
some of these new and improved
services in this issue of
Your Health
.
Starting on the right-hand column
of this page, you’ll read about
the expansion of our Emergency
Department—and the great results
our staff is achieving in terms of
decreasing the wait time to see an
emergency doctor to levels well
below benchmarks.
We’re also making great strides
in developing our new heart
program at Simi Valley Hospital.
You can learn more on pages 4
and 5 and get news about our
community’s first-ever Cardiac
Catheterization Laboratory and our
work toward becoming a certified
stroke center.
Moorpark residents will be
particularly interested in an exciting
development coming to their
community: a new health center for
urgent care, occupational medicine
and specialty physician care. Read
about that on page 6.
On page 7,
you’ll learn
about the
efforts of
our Aspen
Surgery
Center staff
to improve
the patient
experience
through a
focus on
whole-person
care—body, mind and spirit. Flip
to the back page to read about
Simi Valley Hospital’s Lifeline
Program, which connects older
adults with rapid response when
they take a fall in their home.
As always, we have a summary
of hospital news on pages 8 and 9
and a list of our many classes and
support groups on page 10. You
can catch up with the always-
active Simi Valley Hospital
Foundation on page 11. Be sure
to note the date of the popular
Hats Off to Women event,
coming up on April 12.
At Simi Valley Hospital,
we’re here to serve you not just
because it’s our job—rather,
it’s a true pleasure to provide
services that promote health,
healing and wellness in the
community we love.
