Emergency Services and Hospital
Expansion Project.
“The current Emergency
Department was built to
accommodate about 18,000 patients
a year,” Werner said. “At the moment,
we’re seeing about 30,000 patients a
year. Obviously, we need this larger
facility, but it’s also clear that our staff
is doing a great job of making the
existing space as efficient as possible.”
Future growth
The Emergency Department
portion of the project is being
completed in two phases. The
first phase, which is scheduled to
be completed in mid-2014, is the
construction of the new, state-of-
the-art Thakkar Family Emergency
Pavilion, which will add 5,500 square
feet to the existing Emergency
Department and increase the
number of patient beds from 10 to
22. The second phase of the project,
which should be completed by mid-
2015, will remodel the existing space
so that it matches the look of the
new structure.
Visitors to the Emergency
Department area of the hospital will
see a lot of construction activity.
Parking lots have been rearranged,
and the ambulance entrance
has been temporarily relocated.
Nevertheless, Werner emphasized,
it’s business as usual at the hospital
and the Emergency Department.
“It’s important for people to know
that our Emergency Department is
still open for business every day of
the year, 24 hours a day,” Werner
said. “The construction work will not

Showing financial support
The Simi Valley Hospital Foundation is
supporting construction of the Thakkar
Family Emergency Pavilion with a
campaign to raise $3million for the work.
“We’re very excited to have already
raised a significant amount of money for
this project, and we’re looking forward
to adding to that amount during
2013,” said Debi Schultze, president of
the Simi Valley Hospital Foundation.
“We have such generous and civic-
minded individuals, businesses and
organizations in our community who
have stepped forward to demonstrate
their support for their community
hospital by providing a gift for the
campaign. We are just so grateful to all
of them.”

interrupt the service we’re providing
to our community and our patients.”
During construction, Werner
said, hospital leadership is requesting
that patients and visitors who are
not coming to the Emergency
Department use the main lobby
entrance only.
“We want to keep the Emergency
Department entrance easily accessible
to our emergency patients,” he
said. “We really appreciate our
community’s cooperation in this
change during construction.”
More healing room.
