Simi Valley Hospital construction
project gains momentum
Construction on Simi Valley Hospital’s
Emergency Services and Hospital
Expansion Project is moving forward
vigorously toward a planned opening by
the end of 2014.
At the beginning of February, interior
and exterior framing on the three-story
building was almost complete. Sca olding
was visible all around the structure,
an indication that work was about to
commence on closing up the exterior of
the building.
The new building’s primary air handling
equipment was scheduled to be put into
place by the middle of February, and outside
of the building, retaining walls were starting
to go up. Work also continued on the
parking areas adjacent to the new building.
Bill Werner, Simi Valley Hospital’s general
vice president of Support Services, thanked
hospital patients and visitors for their
patience during the construction process.
“We know that parking is challenging
at times while we’re working on the new
building,”he said.“There are just a fewmonths
left on the project; then we’ll have ample
parking for all of our patients and visitors.
In the meantime, if you’re planning to park
in the area of the Emergency Department,
please be prepared to be exible.”
The $41 million project includes the
new Thakkar Family Emergency Pavilion,
which will add more than 5,000 square feet
to the existing Emergency Department
space and increase the number of patient
care rooms from 10 to 22. In addition to
the expanded emergency facilities, the
building will house a new surgery suite, an
equipment room and space to add more
services in the future.
